So you just booked your session, what's next? I get it! Planning for your family session can get stressful. Finding the right outfits, wondering if the little ones will behave, where to find the perfect location, or even just convincing your significant other to do the session however, it doesn't have to be that complicated. Let me share with you a few tips so we can have a fun family session!
" The simpler the outfit, the better " That is what I tell my clients all the time. We want the focus to be on you and your family. So what should you wear? Neutral colors are great choices. Stay away from logos or anything that is too 'busy or sparkly' Also don't hesitate to ask away! We are always happy to help! To make this process a bit easier, I do offer a client closet for little ones 12 months-10 y/o that my clients are welcome to use if they wish.
Go with a location that reflects your family's personality. Do you and your family enjoy going to the beach? Let's do a beach family session then! You can read more about this here
Preparing the little ones
Most sessions happen an hour before sunset ( including mine ) as we get the most beautiful lighting around that time however, that can be a bit of challenge especially for families with very young children who take naps. I would recommend doing an early morning session or adjusting their nap schedule a few days prior to our session, if both are not possible we can also shoot for a mid-day session.
Talk with your significant other prior to the session
Have a spouse that dreads their photos being taken? It is true that it can ruin a session all together if dad is not being cooperative or smiling. Talk to him prior to the session. Explain how important this is to you and your family. Ask him to be cheerful and to take participation. I promise you, it will be worth it. These images will be treasured by your family and will eventually be passed down to your children :)
